Editorial Policy: How We Research Our Guides

This editorial policy explains how EmployerGuide.online produces its practical guidance about South African employer obligations, so you can judge how much to trust it.

Our sources

  • Primary sources first: the Acts (BCEA, LRA, NMWA, EEA, OHSA, COIDA, UIA, POPIA, Income Tax Act) and the official bodies — SARS, the Department of Employment and Labour, the CCMA, the Information Regulator and CIPC.
  • Every rate, threshold, deadline and penalty in a guide links to the official source at the point where the claim is made.
  • Reputable secondary sources (law firms, payroll specialists) are used sparingly and always labelled.

Review and updates

  • Guides are reviewed by Andre van Niekerk, a registered tax practitioner with 20+ years of compliance experience.
  • Every guide shows a “last reviewed” date. Pillar guides are reviewed quarterly; date-sensitive guides (minimum wage, filing seasons, EE reporting) are refreshed at every cycle.
  • Annual posts (EMP501 season, COIDA Return of Earnings, EE reporting) are updated on the same URL each year so bookmarks keep working.
